25/11/2019

Now this was the part of the show that I really got my teeth into: Bridget Riley’s sketches and her working practice.

It’s fascinating to see her studies with their meticulous calculations and notes.

And, just because she chose to create abstract art, it didn’t mean she couldn’t draw as these early beautiful life drawings and studies eloquently show.  Observational drawing is an essential part of my practice so, even though my work is abstract (at the moment), I completely relate to that.

Studying Seurat to the point of copying some of his paintings including The Bridge at Courbevoie (click here for a link to the original) was also something I learnt about her.
