It’s always worth seeing what Blain|Southern’s gallery space is showing at any particular time and these two exhibitions have much to recommend them.
Bosco Sodi’s wall and floor pieces deal with elemental material: earth and clay with eloquent simplicity
And no, this isn’t a weird camera angle, the stack is not perpendicular to the painting or the wall which is quite disorientating
Approaching Abstraction , in the basement gallery, has work selected by Sodi and Alberto Ríos where two pieces in particular caught my attention: the sound of rain on a skylight from the multiple clocks in Tania Candiani‘s Sobra el Tiempo
and the flame-like triptych by performance artist Galia Eibenschutz, evidence of her gestures, a theme I explore in my own work.
