I’d been meaning to visit Beers Contemporary for a while now and finally popped in on a Saturday afternoon, initially to see Michael Mapes‘ work as I’d seen images of it before. I was intrigued by his deconstruction of a portrait and the way he reconstitutes the image. There was poignancy in the debris from elements which had collected at the bottom inside the frame.
At the same time I discovered Frank Day‘s photography of ship hulls. They were disorientating as I had to look closely to see that they were photographs and not prints of paintings.
