Whenever you’re near Brick Lane make sure you look in to S O Gallery as there’s always something good to see. Christopher was my reliable guide this time even though I felt guilty disturbing his lunch.
In addition to a permanent collection (I featured their jewellery in an earlier post), they exhibit artists working in that fascinating crossover area of art, craft and design. Carl Clerkin repurposes everyday objects, giving them new meaning in a wonderfully playful way; I defy you not to smile.Above is the view from the loft for people who don’t have one , complete with a fully functional train set at the top of the ladder. The walking stick below is of course ideal as a corner table. In addition to these larger works, smaller pieces are available through All Lovely Stuff. I particularly like the elastic band operated drawing machine.
I couldn’t not include this map on the gallery wall: a permanent feature where Kent has fallen off towards France.
