Richard Long is the current artist at The Artist Rooms at Tate Modern.
He’s one of those artists whose work makes me slow down and breathe more slowly, something increasingly necessary in our current times.
One of his mud paintings, Waterfall Line, is painted directly onto the gallery wall and exudes an energy that I find deeply nourishing. I could happily live with this.
The circle is a key form in his practice, as it is for me. He says ” A circle outdoors is part of the place it is in, sometimes as far as the eyes can see, while indoors the circle and materials demand more attention”.
He creates landscapes within the landscape, collecting and making what could almost be seen as a garden from the materials available.
