Art whilst walking in Central London (Part 1 of 3)

29/03/2021

Screen detail of VHIL’s work

Walking back from my regular blood donation session just behind Oxford Circus I came across several art displays. I’ve divided them into three parts as there was way too much for one or even two posts.

Late afternoon on Regent Street was pretty quiet giving a clear view of the recent changes: widened pavements and clearly marked cycle lanes along with newly installed asymmetrical planters.

In this initiative the Flannels flagship store at 161-7 Oxford Street has been taken over by W1Curates.

Watch massive projections of work by contemporary artists both day and night. I saw a video by Alexandre Farto aka VHILS, famous for his huge portraits carved into the sides of buildings. It was disorientating to see an explosion (he sometimes uses pyrotechnics as part of the production process) – it almost felt as if the blast was taking place inside the building, not on the windows and must be even more impressive when it’s dark.
