This was a small exhibition of prints by James Turrell at the Gagosian gallery in Burlington Arcade.
The Roden Crater is a volcanic crater out in the Painted Desert of Arizona bought by Turrell back in the 1970s and turned into a massive land-art site to experience and contemplate light.
The architectural drawings on show have their own cosmic beauty. The cluster of lights in my photo below is a reflection from the gallery but has a celestial quality which I quite like.
Woodcut etchings are from Turrell’s Aten Reign installation from 2013 at the Guggenheim in New York where he used light to transform the building’s rotunda into a skyspace.
It’s interesting to see how light has been transformed into a print.
Notice the wood grain and ink texture close up.
More light reflections.
