I was walking down Regent Street the other day and caught sight of this. Retracing my steps to look more closely the camera just had to come out.
Vong Phaophanit and Claire Oboussier (collectively known as Atopia) created this 20m long piece, Line, for the Portland stone entrance to Walmer House.
It is derived from the idea of a seam, a line and, for me at least, a soundwave, all of which relate closely to the building and its location close to the BBC.
Hand carved by Paul Jakeman, it was commissioned by the landlords, Great Portland Estates.
I didn’t have time to go in and see the whole thing as had a meeting to get to.
