Top Drawer: new products

29/01/2011

I’m always interested to see what Top Drawer will reveal each season and it didn’t disappoint this time.

New companies mixed with established ones and it’s always surprising to see who is there. This year I bumped into someone I hadn’t seen for over 20 years!

Here are just a couple of exhibitors worth watching:

Little Walton Bank.  First-time exhibitor Sarah Heaton is a “five to niner”:  people who have a job but want to create something else so are entrepreneurs in their spare time. I come across them a lot at the moment. She has created her vintage inspired range which is very much of the current mood for nostalgia.

Gertrude Jekyll.  Christina Freyberg, her great niece has re-issued the glass vases the famous gardener designed (she had trained in art before turning to garden design). Same old story: if you can’t find what you want you have to design it yourself!  They are exactly the right shape and proportion for displaying flowers so that you can concentrate on the blooms  without distraction.

Last but not least: Rococo Chocolates. They aren’t new but I loved their chilli chocolate which didn’t hit you straight away. Take a bite, let it melt and then – bam! it strikes.
