Sensing Spaces at the Royal Academy

23/01/2014

Opening on Saturday, the seven architects in this new show at the Royal Academy have taken the “sensing” element seriously. Here are a few of my images.

Kengo Kuma’s delicate bamboo structures above include the powerful sense of smell while Grafton Architects manipulate light for an almost religious effect.

Diébédo Francis Kéré invites the visitor to add to his environment with coloured straws.

whereas a different form of exploration is imagined by Pezo von  Ellrichshausen in which you experience parts of the room previously unseen at close range.

I’m not apologising for my photos: it was dark and I’m amazed they came out as clearly as they did!
