The thought of commissioning an artist can be intimidating, but the process is in fact remarkably easy and collaborative.
Whether you have a particular space that needs art but aren’t sure what will fit, or you are an interior designer, art consultant, architect, or developer managing a commercial project, I work closely with you to bring your vision to life.
Why commission art?
- Bespoke dimensions and colour palette: you love a previous piece of my work, but it isn’t the right scale or colour for your environment.
- Site-specific design: you have a unique space or architectural feature that requires something tailor-made.
- The creative journey shared: I work collaboratively. Collectors and clients often tell me how much they have enjoyed being part of the creative process, making the final artwork truly theirs. A brief may evolve through open discussion – it is all part of the journey.
How it works.
- We have an initial conversation to discuss your space, your ideas, budget, and pull out reference pieces from my archive.
- I provide a simple contract detailing the concept, dimensions, design stages, lead times and quote. Once confirmed and signed, a 40% non-refundable deposit secures our agreement.
- I begin work on your piece. As stated in the contract I first make small colour studies for you. Another 30% is paid on approval at this stage, ensuring open and transparent dialogue as the brief may evolve. Lead times tend to be 6-8 weeks from the final confirmation of a brief. This is flexible as my aim is to allow enough time to ensure your satisfaction and delight.
- Once the final artwork is completed and approved, the remaining 30% balance is settled on delivery.
- Photography of the artwork in situ is requested for my records.
Everything begins with a simple conversation so please contact me at caroline@carolinebanks.co.uk if you would like to find out more. I’d be delighted to have a chat to discuss your ideas and space to find a solution that works beautifully for your budget.
